Vickie's Tutoring
My name is Bhavika Kapadia, but you can call me Vickie. I have a MS in Forensic Science with a BS in Biochemistry and want to work in a crime lab one day. At the moment I work as a biochemist in Mira Mesa.I had my first tutoring experience when I helped out special needs students in high school. My senior year in AP Calc, I volunteered to do it for extra credit and found it to be really rewarding!Now I have decided to tutor children from kindergarten up to high school level in the subjects math, reading, and writing.

Where and When
I'm located in Poway, CA and willing to:
- Travel up to 30 miles to meet my students at their residence
- Travel up to 30 miles to another location (library, park, etc.)
- Do the session(s) via google meet (please keep in mind time zone differences!)
- I will ALWAYS ensure the safety of everyone involved!I get off work around 7pm PST so anytime after that is good. (I do have to eat though, so if I'm munching during a session booked at 8 pm, don't be surprised.) I'm pretty much always available on weekends though! NO WEDNESDAYS THOUGH, my doctor said I work too much so I gotta give myself a mid-week break.Linked below are my ways of contact.

Teaching Style
Super visual. I draw and elaborate and visualize and make pictures and puzzles. I write lots of things down, color coding, organizing, all that jazz. Perfect for math subjects!For reading and writing, it works visually too, though verbal/auditory works best for that.I use old textbooks, ixl.com, and whatever materials that gets provided to you by your teacher/institution etc. It's really helpful if there's a syllabus!Fun fact: If you couldn't tell by my name already, I'm Indian. So I speak Hindi and Gujrati (though I don't know how to read/write it, thus those services I do not offer).
Money talk
$22 - $25/hr
My rate is $22/hr because I'm doing this job as my side income, though my main motivation is because tutoring is fun, easy, and stimulating for me (being a biochemist can get boring sometimes believe it or not).For in-person tutoring that requires driving distances:
- less than 30 miles, I will charge $22/hr including drive time.
- farther than 30 miles, I will charge $25/hr including drive time.In order to 'lock me in' as your tutor, I charge $5 for an initial assessment and initial session booking (More details on the next section).For sending payments via Zelle, use my phone number.
The Session
Getting Started
I have a Google Classroom set up where I have an initial assessment required by all students. It's basically a list of topics that they checkmark if they know and leave blank if they don't. Takes about 1 minute. This is to figure out what they already know so that I can build off of that.I also have a shared calendar where you can make your bookings with me.Once the $5 is paid, I'll give you access to the Google Classroom.
The Session pt. 2
Bookings
You are allowed to book me for 10 days in advance, but, for the first session, not earlier than 2 days in advance (so if you find me on a Saturday, you cannot book me for Sunday or Monday).I don't have any cancellations fees, life happens! You won't get charged for that.
If the student shows up 15 minutes late to the session, I will consider the session cancelled and ask to reschedule or remove from my calendar.Some folks have asked that I book them for a whole month's worth of sessions and they pay me a lump sum up front. I do not prefer this.
